Make your wedding invitations with AI
Last updated
Inviteos is an invitation app for iPhone and iPad. You give it the details of the wedding, pick a style, and it lays out the card for you, ready to send on WhatsApp or by email, or to print. This page covers what a wedding invitation needs to say, a few wording examples, and which size to use where.
Key points
- Send wedding invitations six to eight weeks before the wedding, or about three months ahead for a destination wedding.
- Ask guests to reply three to four weeks before the wedding.
- A printed wedding invitation is usually 5×7 inches, which fits an A7 envelope; for WhatsApp, a portrait image of 1080×1350 pixels shows in full.
- Inviteos makes the card on an iPhone or iPad from your details. It is free to download; subscriptions cost $2.99 a week or $14.99 a year.
What should a wedding invitation say?
Guests read an invitation for the facts, so get these right before you think about the design:
- Who is inviting: the couple, or one or both sets of parents.
- The couple's names, written the way you want them used.
- The date, the start time and, for guests abroad, the time zone.
- The venue with its town or city, and the reception venue if it's somewhere else.
- How and by when to reply. See how to word the RSVP.
- A dress code or wedding website, only if there is one.
How do you word a wedding invitation?
Start with who is hosting, then the invitation line, the couple's names, the date and time, and the venue. Cards hosted by parents often use the formal “request the pleasure of your company”. When the couple hosts, plainer wording such as “Join us” reads more naturally. End with the date guests should reply by.
When parents are hosting:
Mr and Mrs Ahmed request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Sana to Bilal Khan, on Saturday 14 December at 6 p.m., at the Pearl Continental, Lahore.
When the couple is hosting:
Emily and James are getting married. Join us on 21 June at 3 p.m. at Ashton Court, Bristol, with dinner and dancing to follow. Please reply by 1 May.
For a card sent on WhatsApp, shorter works better: names, date, time, venue and the RSVP line. Anything else can go in the message you send with it.
How do I make a wedding invitation on my iPhone?
In Inviteos, on your iPhone or iPad:
- Choose the occasion, so the layout and tone suit a wedding.
- Add the details: names, date, time, venue and a short message.
- Pick a style, for example elegant, floral, minimalist or classic.
- Choose the size for where you'll send it.
- Adjust the colour palette.
- Preview the card and download it.
What size should a wedding invitation be?
For a printed card, 5×7 inches is the standard size in the US and a common one in the UK; it fits an A7 envelope. WhatsApp has no official size, but a portrait image works best: 1080×1350 pixels in a chat, or 1080×1920 to fill the screen in Status.
| Where it goes | Size | In pixels |
|---|---|---|
| WhatsApp chat | Portrait, 4:5 | 1080×1350 |
| WhatsApp Status | Full screen, 9:16 | 1080×1920 |
| Printed card | 5×7 in (127×178 mm), in an A7 envelope (5¼×7¼ in) | 1500×2100 at 300 dpi |
| Printed card, A5 | 148×210 mm (5.8×8.3 in), in a C5 envelope | 1748×2480 at 300 dpi |
On a phone, keep the text large: WhatsApp compresses images, and small print turns blurry. Our guides to invitation sizes for WhatsApp, wedding invitation dimensions in pixels and 5×7 wedding invitations go into more detail. For any other size, the invitation size calculator works out the pixels.
Do I need a separate card for each wedding event?
Only if the guest lists differ. When everyone is invited to every event, one card can list them all, each with its own date, time and venue. When some events are smaller, such as a haldi for close family, make a card for each event and send it only to the people invited.
For the events before the wedding day, see haldi, mehndi and sangeet invitations.
How much does Inviteos cost?
Inviteos is free to download from the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and some features need a subscription. It costs $2.99 a week or $14.99 a year; the yearly plan costs about the same as five weeks of the weekly one. The pricing page explains renewal and cancelling. There's no Android version yet.
Wedding invitation questions
How far in advance should you send wedding invitations?
Six to eight weeks before the wedding is the usual guide. For a destination wedding, or when many guests travel from abroad, send them about three months ahead so people can book flights and time off.
When should the RSVP date be on a wedding invitation?
Three to four weeks before the wedding. That leaves time to chase anyone who hasn’t replied before you give final numbers to the venue or caterer. Write it as a date, such as “Please reply by 1 May”.
Is it OK to send wedding invitations on WhatsApp?
Yes. Many couples now send their invitations on WhatsApp, and it works well as long as the card has all the details and you send it to each guest yourself rather than only to a group. Some guests, often older relatives, still expect a printed card or a phone call. Follow up with anyone who hasn’t replied, in case the message was missed.
What is the difference between a save-the-date and a wedding invitation?
A save-the-date only asks guests to keep the day free. It goes out months before the invitation and doesn’t need times or an RSVP. The invitation follows later with everything guests need: the time, the venue and how to reply.
