Common invitation sizes in pixels

At 300 dpi, the resolution print shops expect. The bleed column adds ⅛ inch (3 mm for A sizes) on every side for printing to the edge.

What size should an invitation be for WhatsApp?

WhatsApp has no official size and compresses images, so print sizes and dpi don't matter on a phone. What matters is the shape and enough pixels for text to stay sharp: a portrait image 1080 pixels wide works well, and large text survives the compression better.

How are the pixels worked out?

Pixels are the print size in inches multiplied by the resolution in dots per inch. Millimetres are divided by 25.4 first. A 5×7 inch card at 300 dpi is 5 × 300 by 7 × 300, so 1,500 × 2,100 pixels. Bleed is added to every side before multiplying.

Questions about invitation sizes

How many pixels is a 5×7 invitation?

At 300 dpi, the usual resolution for printing, a 5×7 inch invitation is 1,500 × 2,100 pixels. With ⅛ inch of bleed on each side for edge-to-edge printing, the file is 1,575 × 2,175 pixels.

What resolution should an invitation be for printing?

300 dpi, which is what print shops expect for sharp text and fine lines. 150 dpi is enough for a quick draft on a home printer, but small text can look soft.

What is bleed on an invitation?

Bleed is extra background beyond the edge of the card, usually ⅛ inch or 3 mm on each side. The printer trims it off, so colours and pictures run right to the edge without a thin white line. Keep text a little way in from the edge too.
